“Bull” easily earned his AKC Bench Championship from the Bred-By-Exhibitor Class- qualifying him to be invited to the 2006 Eukanuba National Dog Show. Bull was Reserve Winners Dog at the 2003 American Chesapeake Club National Show Specialty in Michigan. Bull is a moderate male, who has a wonderful correct layback of shoulder, lovely coat and pleasing clean head. Bull has an easy going disposition, is a fast stylish retriever, & is a willing easy to train dog.
Bull would be an excellent choice of stud dog to most any show or field kennel as he would keep true type, bringing in a strong correct shoulder, while adding trainability and natural retrieving skills!
Physical Conformation
Bull has exceptional shoulders and a very sound front assembly- both are multi generational, so it is a feature that he has easily replicated in his offspring. Bull has a correct length of body and level top-line, which will prove sound over the years. Bull’s head and expression are very pleasing; his tight lips and good ear length give him a classic retriever head style. Bull’s coat is another of his exceptional qualities as it is very heavy with a nice coarse undercoat.
Temperament
Bull has an extraordinary wonderful easy-going temperament. He is neither too soft nor overly aggressive. Bull is co-owned and loved by a young active family in Annapolis Maryland. He enjoys time with the families’ young children- participating in pool parties, softball games and keeping them safe from intruders.
Retrieving, Trainability & Skills
Bull is a fantastic retriever willing to take on most any challenge- birds or even multiple tennis balls! Bull has excellent retrieving skills in the water- he is a strong powerful swimmer- able to stay his course in the rapids of Muddy Creek and navigate the swamp marshes along the Chesapeake Bay.
PEDIGREE ~ PEDIGREE ~ PEDIGREE !
Bull has a very special pedigree ~ as it does NOT contain the most heavily used Chesapeake stud dogs (CH Chestnut Hills Stone E Tug or CH Pond Hollow Casablanca). His pedigree is however, a line breeding of Pond Hollow dogs incorporating several outstanding producers that have made quality contributions to the breed.
Bull’s Mother ~ “Ty” was the top AKC Competitive Obedience Chesapeake in the nation several years running! Ty was owned and trained by Susan Cone, who as a team earned several High In Trails at many of the top obedience competitions on the east coast! Ty earned the highest scores EVER for a Chesapeake- 199.5 out of a possible 200. After retiring from Competitive Obedience- at eight years old- Ty went on to earn her AKC Junior Hunting (JH) title in just two short months in training proving her versatility! Bull’s Father ~ “Bery” is the one the top stud dogs of today. Bery has a very correct layback of shoulder, lots of substance and strong angled rear assembly. Bull’s Grandfather ~ “Duke” was one of the most influential gun dogs in the breed! Duke was owned and trained by MJ Nelson of Sprucegrove Kennels and writer for Gun Dog Magazine. Duke was a powerful handsome retriever who passed his love of birds to his offspring.
Off-Spring
While only a young dog himself, and used very sparingly- he has produced high quality off spring that are competing in AKC Hunt Tests (SH level), Conformation Shows and Completive Obedience Trials. Bull’s off spring are also used as companion hunting dogs and loyal family pets.
